When your Canon T7 shows “Card’s write protect switch is set to lock”, it means the camera thinks the memory card is locked and cannot save new photos or videos. This is related to the small switch on the side of the SD card, not the camera itself.
There are 2 main reasons for this error:
1️⃣ The card’s write-protect switch is actually set to LOCK
2️⃣ The switch is broken or missing, so the card is permanently “locked”
On the side of the SD card, there is a tiny LOCK/UNLOCK switch.
👉 Steps:
Take the memory card out of the camera.
Look at the side of the card for the small sliding switch.
If it’s in the LOCK position (towards the bottom), slide it up to the UNLOCK position.
Put the card back into the camera and turn the camera on.
Sometimes the plastic switch: Gets loose, Slides by itself, Or breaks off completely. If the switch is broken or missing, the camera will always see the card as locked, and you won’t be able to use it.
If the switch is missing, cracked, or doesn’t stay in place, the card is no longer usable for work. Do not try to tape it or force it for work use.
👉 What to do next: Switch to another memory card immediately and inform management in the WhatsApp work chat.
